Born in Barcelona, Spain and brought up to be a cabinet-maker, Francisco Simplicio practiced this trade until he became a guitar builder under the guidance of the great Enrique Garcia. Upon Garcia's death, Simplicio took over the premises at Paseo San Juan No.110.
Simplicio is known for his decorative carvings of his guitars but the sound of them is equally as stunning as the craftsmanship. In 1929, he was recognized for his efforts and awarded a gold medal at the World's Fair but somehow could not convince the players of the day to see the advantages of the guitars sound and playability. His guitars are still sought after because of their great sound today.
